Outfox the Fox

A trivia game where one of the five correct answers is a lie, and somebody at the table put it there.

Jeff Grisenthwaite's design takes the top-five-list format and breaks it. The table is given five answers and asked to rank them — except one player, the Fox, has quietly swapped in a fake. Everybody else is trying to sequence the list correctly and spot the impostor answer at the same time; the Fox is trying to look helpful.

It works because the two jobs pull against each other. Argue too confidently about the ordering and you look like you know something; stay quiet and you look like you are hiding. Goes up to ten, runs forty to sixty minutes, and nominated for a 2026 Origins Award for Best Party Game. Trivia knowledge helps but is not the point — reading the room is.

Perfect for: a group that has worn out Wavelength and would like the lying back.
