Tarantulas are large, slow, mostly harmless to humans and considerably more anxious about the encounter than you are. They moult by climbing out of their old skin entirely, leaving behind something that looks exactly like a dead spider and causes a great deal of unnecessary alarm. Some species live thirty years. As a subject for a model they are all articulation, which is the interesting part.

The eight legs are the build. Each one is a separate multi-segment piece that has to be folded and posed, and if you rush them the finished spider stands like it has had a difficult night.
