A fighter designed by people who had spent a lot of time watching footage of Spitfires.

The X-wing works because it borrows from aircraft that actually existed. A single pilot, a bubble canopy, a long nose and wings that split into an X for attack: it reads as a fighter rather than a spacecraft, which is the whole reason the trench run felt like a dogfight instead of a physics problem. The design has survived five decades and several sequel trilogies without needing a redesign.

The split wings are the reason to build this one. Getting all four to sit at matching angles takes patience and is immediately obvious when it goes wrong. Laser-cut stainless steel, tab-and-slot assembly, no glue or paint. Tweezers and needle-nose pliers recommended. Finishes in bare steel on a stand.

Perfect for: Anyone who still says the noise when the S-foils lock into attack position.

Laser-cut steel | No glue required | Age 14+
