Magic: The Gathering – Outlaws of Thunder Junction Play Booster Pack
A Western, on a plane where everyone arriving has something to run from.
The Omenpaths are open and the Multiverse is emptying its worst into Thunder Junction. Oko has assembled a posse of the most wanted people he could find to rob an ancient vault, and Kellan — his son — is somewhere behind him. Vraska, Tinybones, Rakdos, Annie Flash, Stella Lee and Gonti fill out a cast in which almost nobody is on the level.
Released 19 April 2024 and still Standard legal. Plot lets you exile a card from your hand at sorcery speed for its plot cost, then cast it free on a later turn. Spree spells make you choose one or more additional modes and pay for each. Saddle works like crew for Mounts. Two terms do a lot of quiet work across the set: an outlaw is any Assassin, Mercenary, Pirate, Rogue or Warlock, and you commit a crime whenever you target an opponent, something they control, or a card in their graveyard.
Worth knowing before you buy: every Play Booster guarantees one card from the Breaking News bonus sheet, and roughly one in three of those is a rare or mythic. Breaking News cards are not Standard legal — the main set and The Big Score are. Because that slot takes a common's place, these packs run 5 or 6 commons rather than the usual 6 or 7.
Fourteen cards in total, including 3 uncommons, a wildcard, at least one rare or mythic rare, a traditional foil and a land, plus a token or art card.
Please note: this is a single sealed booster. Contents are random and no specific card is guaranteed beyond the Breaking News slot.
Perfect for: anyone whose instinct on being handed a list of the Multiverse's most wanted is to read it as a shopping list.
