Jumpstart is the format for people who want to play Magic without building anything. Each pack is a themed twenty-card half-deck — you shuffle it together with someone else's and play immediately, no deckbuilding, no collection required. Foundations is the set designed as the permanent starting point for Magic, so the cards stay legal and relevant rather than rotating out.

It is the easiest way into the game there has ever been, and it works just as well for existing players who want a quick game between rounds of something more serious. Two packs and two people is a complete evening.
