King Of Tokyo Origins

A monster fight in a smaller box, for less money.

Giant monsters brawling over Tokyo, which remains one of the better premises in the hobby. Richard Garfield designed the original; Origins is the standalone entry point — a smaller, more affordable package carrying four new monsters, a mix of new and familiar power cards, energy cubes and green dice.

The game underneath is unchanged. Roll six dice showing points, energy, heal and attack; take up to three throws, keeping and discarding as you go; and be first to twenty points or the last creature standing. The rule that makes it sing is positional: if you are outside Tokyo you hit whoever is in it, and if you are in Tokyo you hit everybody else at once. Being in Tokyo scores well and is a thoroughly bad place to be.

Perfect for: Anyone buying their first proper board game, and anyone who wants the fight settled inside half an hour.
