The bare steel version of this galleon is handsome but silver, which is a slightly awkward outcome for a vessel whose entire identity is being black. This is the ICONX treatment: larger sheets, more parts, finer detail, and a black finish that finally matches the subject. Three masts under full sail, a stern castle carrying most of the decoration, and rigging rendered as fine cut steel rather than thread.

Be realistic about the time. The three masts each carry yards and standing rigging that all has to line up, and a galleon that leans is a galleon you will keep looking at. Laser-cut steel, tab-and-slot assembly, no glue or paint. Tweezers and needle-nose pliers essential. One of the more demanding builds in the range and one of the best finished results.

Perfect for: Somebody who has already built a small kit and asked what the difficult ones are like.
