Reiner Knizia's auction game, and one of the cleanest designs he ever produced. Luxuries come up for bid one at a time and you pay with a fixed hand of money cards you can never make change from. Overpay and you win the villa. Overpay too often and you end the game as the poorest player at the table, which disqualifies you outright no matter how much status you accumulated.

Fifteen to twenty minutes, and every single bid is a genuine decision. There are misfortune cards in the deck too, which you bid down to avoid — the only auction in the game where you want to lose.
