Mushroom picking, which is either a relaxing hobby or a fatal one.

The latest from the Flatout Games team behind Cascadia, and the same restful register: you're out in the Pacific Northwest gathering morels, porcini, stinging nettle, fiddleheads, salmonberries and huckleberries. The foraging dice are oversized wooden things with six actual foraged items printed on them rather than pips, which tells you most of what you need to know about the production.

Mechanically it's a roll-and-write with a tableau on top. Each round you roll, a trail tile is revealed, and you choose a combination of dice to spend on exploring, stocking your pantry or giving things away. The tension is that the good dice are always the ones somebody else wanted, and it scales up to six without the turns getting slow — rare for the format.

Perfect for: Larger groups who like a quiet game, and anyone who owns a mushroom identification book they have never fully trusted.
