Everybody picks a card at the same time, and then the table finds out who has ruined their own evening.

Wolfgang Kramer designed this in 1994 and nobody has improved on it since. Four rows of cards on the table. Everyone plays one card face down, then they all flip at once and slot into the rows in ascending order. Take the sixth card in any row and you take the whole row — and the cattle heads printed on those cards are negative points.

The joke is that you have no idea what anyone else played, so a card that looked safe becomes catastrophic the moment two other people play lower. It scales to ten, teaches in a minute, and is one of a very small number of card games that genuinely gets better with more people. A staple in Germany for thirty years, and still underrated here.

Perfect for: a large table where somebody has just said they do not really like card games.
