Wrath of Fire Mountain
The board moves. Bring dinosaurs.
Fire Mountain is a primordial land of ever-shifting terrain, where tribes compete for control using their dinosaurs and whatever blessing the volcano is prepared to hand out. Eric M. Lang and Phil Walker-Harding designed it together for Gamewright, which is an unusual pairing, and it shows in how much game is packed into three-quarters of an hour.
You roll the dice Yahtzee-style and spend the results placing cave people out across the grass and jungle tiles. Get enough of them onto the hatching region and you take a dinosaur into your supply — and every dinosaur carries a power, whether that is rolling an extra die, occupying water spaces, or simply flying to any tile it fancies. The ruthless bit is the volcano: hold the most people on the volcano tile and you can shove an entire row or column of the four-by-four grid one space along, with the ejected tile reappearing at the far end. Fill every volcano space and it erupts.
Perfect for: People who would rather rearrange the problem than solve it.
