Cards you can drop in the pool, for a game that was always going to end up there.

The hand-slapping game, reissued for environments that destroy ordinary cards. Sixty-four waterproof cards, a bag to keep them in, and water-themed artwork throughout — a taco lounging in a floatie, a goat messing about with a beach ball. Nothing about how it plays has been changed; it has simply been made survivable. The box says it can be played wet or dry, which in practice means it gets played wet.

Players take turns flipping a card into a central pile while chanting taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza in order. When the word you say matches the card you turn over, everyone races to slap the pile, and the slowest hand takes the lot. First to run out of cards wins. The special action cards — gorilla, narwhal and groundhog — make you pound your chest or mime a horn before slapping, which is where the last of the dignity goes. The rules take under a minute to explain, and the original runs ten to thirty minutes with nothing here to change that.

Perfect for: The camping trip where somebody has already ruined one deck of cards, and the household that has quietly stopped trying to keep anything dry.

2–8 players | 10–30 minutes | Age 7+ | 64 waterproof cards
