Space Base
An engine builder where you get to do things on everybody else's turn.
You're a commodore in a spaceport, buying ships and stationing them in twelve numbered berths. Two dice are rolled each turn and the ships in the matching berths activate — which sounds like Machi Koro until you notice the central trick: when it isn't your turn, your ships still pay out, just from a different row. Nobody at the table is ever doing nothing.
That single idea is why it stays on shelves. Downtime effectively disappears, everyone watches every roll, and the game builds to a point where a single die result cascades through half your board. It's John D. Clair's design, it runs about an hour, and it teaches in five minutes despite looking like it shouldn't.
Perfect for: Groups with one player who checks their phone between turns. They will not get the chance.
2–5 players | 60 minutes | Age 14+
