The pieces do not merely stack up. That is rather the point.

The Great Barrier Reef — the sort of thing Australians are quietly proprietorial about — rendered as a personal patch of ocean that you fill with fish, coral and whatever else you can persuade to move in. Designed by Yeom.C.W with artwork by Sophia Kang for Bad Comet, and the artwork earns its keep: a board covered in this stuff is the reason people stop walking past the table.

On your turn you take a tile — fish, coral or sea life — and place it in an empty space on your board. Everything hangs off the flip: surround a coral with fish of its own colour and it turns over, becoming a home, and you decide which fish move in. Elements activate, deactivate and move rather than sitting where you left them, so a well-built reef completes several coral at once while a badly-built one quietly locks itself up. Ecosystem cards set the scoring and change what a good reef even looks like from one game to the next. Rated 14+, which is a good deal higher than the artwork leads you to expect.

Perfect for: Anyone who rearranges the dishwasher after somebody else has already loaded it.

1–4 players | 30–45 minutes | Age 14+
