Cottagecore arrived in puzzles some years ago and shows no sign of leaving, and the mushroom house is its purest expression: a small dwelling somewhere improbably green, surrounded by fungi at a scale that would be alarming in real life. It sits in the same territory as the fairytale and fantasy-illustration titles that have been quietly outselling landscape photography in the puzzle aisle for a while now.

Illustrated fantasy subjects are usually kinder than photographs, because the artist has already separated the elements for you with line and colour rather than leaving you a continuous field of leaves. Expect the foliage and undergrowth to be the slow section and everything architectural to fall in quickly. Ravensburger cut every piece individually, their Softclick fit keeps finished sections together when you move them, and the completed puzzle measures 70 by 50 centimetres.
