Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons
Terror, as the box points out, is in the eye of the beholder.
Ravensburger's Horrified system pointed squarely at Dungeons & Dragons, with four of the game's most fearsome foes loose in the dungeon below Waterdeep at the same time. Peter Lee designed it. Each player takes one of five heroes drawn from the D&D classes — wizard, rogue, fighter, cleric or bard — each with their own set of abilities to bring to the party.
You work together against the monsters and a run of puzzle-like obstacles, gathering item tokens, protecting citizens and staying out of the way of attacks. Every monster brings its own thematic challenge, so there is no single tactic that clears the board — what beat the last one will not beat the next. A twenty-sided die settles matters, which is the borrowed mechanism that does rather more than decorate. Forty-five to sixty minutes.
Perfect for: Groups who want a co-op that finishes on a school night and still manages to go badly wrong.
1–5 players | 45–60 minutes | Age 10+
