Great Western Trail Second Edition
Cattle to Kansas City. Again. And you will enjoy it.
Nineteenth-century America, and you are a rancher moving herds from Texas up to Kansas City to send them off by train, which earns you money and victory points in roughly that order. Alexander Pfister's second edition for eggertspiele brings new artwork by Chris Quilliams, dual-layered player boards, a solo mode, the Simmental cattle breed, two new reversible buildings, four new Master Tiles, and the twelve exchange tokens first introduced in Rails of the North.
The trail is the game. Keeping your herd in good shape is only half the job — the other half is making good use of the buildings along the route, and they are not all yours. Hiring decides a lot of it: cowboys improve the herd, craftsmen let you put up buildings of your own, engineers push the railroad along. Each is a different long game, and you cannot run all three at once. Seventy-five minutes to two and a half hours, and heavy the whole way.
Perfect for: Players who enjoy being punished slowly, and legibly, by their own earlier decisions.
1–4 players | 75–150 minutes | Age 12+
