Cluedo is the original murder mystery board game — and after more than seventy years on shelves, it remains the definitive version. There's something deeply satisfying about the process of elimination that sits at the heart of this game. Every question you ask is a clue. Every answer someone gives tells you something. Every wrong accusation sends you out of the running entirely. And the moment you narrow it down to a single suspect, weapon, and room and get it right — there's nothing quite like it.

How it works

Mr. Boddy has been murdered in his mansion. Six suspects. Six weapons. Nine rooms. One of each is the answer, sealed in an envelope in the centre of the board. Players move through the mansion, making suggestions about who was in which room with which weapon. Other players reveal cards that disprove your suggestions, and through a process of careful deduction, the truth emerges. The first player to correctly accuse the murderer wins.

Why it's still brilliant

Cluedo rewards logic, memory, and occasionally bluffing. It plays differently every time because the answer is always different. And it's one of the few games where a nine-year-old with good deductive instincts can legitimately beat a room full of adults, which makes it unusually satisfying across all ages.
