CATAN: Dawn of Humankind
Catan, except the resources run out because you have walked off the edge of the map.
A standalone game rather than an expansion, and a reworking of the old Settlers of the Stone Age. You are guiding a branch of the human family out of Africa and across the world, gathering resources, migrating when the land gives out, and developing culture and technology along the way.
The familiar Catan engine is underneath — dice-driven production, roads, settlements — but migration changes the shape of the game completely. Standing still is not viable, so the tension is between developing where you are and moving before the board moves on without you. Around ninety minutes, which is longer than base Catan and earns it.
Perfect for: Catan players who have solved base Catan and want the same language with different grammar.
3-4 players | 90 minutes | Age 12+ | Standalone, no base game needed
