Grandpa Beck's build family card games that seat a lot of people and teach in about ninety seconds, and this is squarely that. A retro space theme, and a simple goal: get the total value of your hand down to five points or less, then call Countdown and end the round before anyone else is ready.

Each turn you discard one or more cards of the same number onto either discard pile, then draw — blind from the deck, or knowingly from a discard pile. That choice is the whole game. Drawing blind is faster but risks picking up exactly what you were trying to shed. Two to eight players is a wide range and it genuinely works at the top end.

Perfect for: A table of eight where half of them do not really play games.
