What you get is sixteen cards dealt face down into a four-by-four grid in front of you, numbers one to ten with ten copies of each in the deck, and a growing suspicion that the person to your left can count better than you can. Designed by Claude Clément for Gigamic, with artwork by Joey. It is the kind of thing that lives in a bag and comes out when a bigger game finishes early.

Everyone reveals one card of their choosing, and play starts with whoever showed the lowest. On your turn you claim a revealed card and slide it into your own grid to fill the hole you made when you took something out — hence the name. That happens fifteen more times, until every grid is face up. Then any number sitting next to a matching number is removed, and the sum of whatever is left is your score. Lowest wins, so the whole game is a long argument with yourself about which pairs you can actually get adjacent before someone takes the card you were counting on. Play a single grid, or keep going until somebody hits 100.

Perfect for: People who do the crossword in pen, and anyone who has ever quietly rearranged a dishwasher somebody else had already loaded.

2–6 players | 15 minutes | Age 7+
